design to learn
I help companies understand their market, communicate their vision & execute faster
Why those three?
I always have been the person constantly thinking about improving systems. My career found a theme exploring new ways to present old things: newspapers, email, slide decks.
Working with founders means I get to learn about everything from AI data centers to fluid dynamics, real estate and venture funds. But many genius product minds are not great storytellers.
Meeting the daily deadline of a print newspaper fostered a pragmatic mindset. When it's time for the presses to roll, each minute’s delay costs money.
However, a daily edition creates fresh opportunity to improve. That iterative approach carries over to digital products for me. Each revision learns from customer feedback, so teams I lead embrace prototyping and iteration to craft research- and data-informed solutions.
I bring experience in product design, research, content design, prototyping, design systems and strategy. I started as an IC, grew into management roles, and then got hands-on again. To all challenges, I roll up my sleeves and do what’s needed for the team, whether that’s personally exporting hundreds of assets or creating a process to smooth product launch approvals.
I'm open to new full-time roles or advising companies looking to mature their Design process.
Meanwhile, you'll find me listening to all sorts of podcasts, immersed in a logic puzzle or reading up on football (soccer) tactics.

Let’s work together
If you’re looking for a design leader who communicates well with executives and team members, improves collaboration between Design and partners, and connects customer value to business value, then let’s talk.
My career journey

Ask Tony, content designer
I’m leading narrative development and copywriting for a design agency that creates pitch decks for startups and VCs. I leaned into AI-assisted writing and design to develop a custom GPT that synthesizes an “elevator pitch” from background research.

Yahoo Mail, director of product design
I led UX for the Yahoo and AOL personal productivity apps. I connected business outcomes to the needs of 100 million daily users, like surpassing $1 billion in revenue while maintaining category-leading customer satisfaction ratings.

Yahoo Ad Tech, design manager
I guided UX for demand-side advertising platforms. Among the highlights, I planned and conducted 30+ customer and expert interviews to shape the strategy for consolidating display, native, search and premium ad management into a single platform.

Yahoo Messenger, design manager
My first player-coach role was for messaging products. I managed a small team that refreshed the web-based interface for Yahoo Messenger, and the team created a forward-thinking, multi-platform group chat application, Yahoo Together.

Chicago Tribune, designer
For the Tribune I designed the daily presentation of news reports in a deadline-driven environment. In this highly collaborative role, I worked with cross-discipline partners to tell stories through headlines, articles, photos and graphics.
